Moonstruck

This 36″ × 24″ oil painting on canvas was created on Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi, and is inspired by the dense rainforest of Mānoa Valley. Layered shapes and interlocking forms translate the lush plant life into a rhythmic, almost architectural composition. A palette of deep greens, turquoise, and sunlit accents evokes filtered light moving through leaves and humid air. The work balances abstraction and organic reference, capturing the vitality, abundance, and quiet intensity of the island’s rainforest landscape.

Description

This surreal abstract landscape is one of my 2024 works. Inspired by the lush, opulent, and magical plant life of Hawai‘i, it blends free-flowing line work with the quiet awe we all feel on full-moon nights. I love walking through the island’s rainforests—especially the Manoa Falls trail—and my frequent hikes there helped shape the composition and atmosphere of this piece.

Mesmerized by full moon nights even the plants are stunned and bath in the shimmering golden and green cool light.
